Where’s Baby B: Exploring Parksville, BC
Exploring Parksville on Vancouver Island, British Columbia
Vancouver Island is one of our favorite places to get away – especially with a toddler. It’s an hour and a half ferry ride from the mainland and we can bring our car. Baby B loves playing in the play area onboard and it’s more like a mini cruise than transportation (especially on the new coastal ferries which are our favorite).
Parksville is only a 30 minute drive from the ferry in Departure Bay (Nanaimo). It’s got the best kid friendly beach which goes for miles and depending on the tide, it doesn’t get very deep. There are a number of different accommodation options in Parksville from adorable cottages right on the beach to high end family friendly resorts like the Tigh-Na-Mara Seaside Spa Resort which is where we stayed.
Baby B loved playing on the beach flipping over rocks as we searched for baby crabs. He also was a big fan of the jacuzzi tub in our room – it was used as his own personal pool for much of our stay.
In town we found lots of family friendly food options from budget to high end, with each place having a kids menu and high chair. Plus, Parksville has a number of family friendly activities all within a short drive away – perfect for a toddler who hates the car!

Chad I would like to see in your new catfish quick tips videos about looking at the contours lines on lake maps to find the most likely spot to fish four catfish. Many like certain types of drop offs, slopes, areas in the river channels.
I thought I’d have to read a book for a discovery like this!
Glad I’ve finally found somheting I agree with!
