Packing list for a family ski trip

Tis the season for ski vacations

We love winter and this year we decided to focus our winter vacations on ski resorts rather than sunny skies. But packing for a ski vacation is a lot harder with two young kids. Shorts and t-shirts take up little space, boots and ski gear take more planning.

It’s really important to pack the right gear for a ski vacation with kids because cold kids make for cranky kids. We learned this the hard way. It’s also important to buy proper waterproof boots, gloves, jacket and pants. These items will keep your little one warm and comfortable, making for a fun vacation for everyone.

I’ve put together a list of everything we pack for a 5 night ski vacation with our young kids. We use the same list for our 3 year old and 1 year old. (Note: bring less clothing if a washer and dryer is available. This list is taking into account that there is NO washer or dryer in-suite).

Checklist for young kids on a 5 day ski vacation:

  • 6 Pairs of comfy pants
  • 4 Onesies (if traveling with a baby)
  • 2 Sweaters
  • 7 Pairs of underwear
  • 3 T-shirts
  • 4 Long sleeve shirts
  • 8 Pairs of warm socks
  • Shoes
  • Warm waterproof winter boots like Sorel or Columbia
  • Waterproof mittens
  • Fleece hat
  • 2 Pairs of PJ’s
  • Bathing suit
  • Winter coat
  • Snow pants
  • Neck gaiter/Balaclava/Scarf

If skiing or snowboarding add these items:

  • Thin fleece sweater and pants
  • Underlayers
  • Ski socks
  • Balaclava or scarf
  • Goggles
  • Ski boots/Snowboard boots
  • Skis or Snowboard
  • Polls if skiing
  • Bindings
  • Helmet
  • Sunscreen
  • Sunglasses
  • Wrist Guards

Additional Items:

  • Diapers
  • Wipes
  • Sunscreen
  • Moisturizing cream
  • Chap stick
  • Toothbrush and Toothpaste
  • Tylenol or Advil
  • Snacks
  • Games/ Electronic Devices

  • We just got back from a ski long weekend and you are so right, everything takes up so much space! I am bookmarking this list for our next trip 🙂 Our kids get super cranky when cold too, and it took me forever to convince my eldest to wear his mitts! I had to put socks on his hands for the longest time 🙂 The helmets took up the most space, so we might consider renting them next time.
ps – I love that you are babywearing and tubing, that is the ultimate!

  • This is a great list of lesser known items that can make everything easier while traveling! Really it such an informative post. I’ve read so many amazing things about your article! Your blog is essential for all parents. Seriously thank you for all this awesomeness. Thanks for sharing.

  • 6 pairs of pants? That is a lot! I prefer to pack a little more lightly. Although counting together my leggings, compression socks and trousers would certainly add up to six pairs of trousers.

    Hi Nicole and Cam,
    Congratulations for your blog.
I live in Montreal, Quebec, with my partner Patrice. I am now 41 and pregnant with our first child. We won a trip to Australia and we plan to go in late Summer of 2015 with our then 3-month old child.
Do you know any blogs, websites, books and other types of reading available out there that could be helpful for travelling that far with an infant? Many thanks in advance.
    Best regards.
